390 is just a 1mm big bore kit on 385 chassis. To me they run about the same blindfolded. Maybe a little more torque with the 390. 385 a bit better on gas mileage from what I remember. Getting hard to find clean older 385’s!

That's what I thought they were pretty much the same...just slightly bigger bore. So there's really no reason to go with a 385 over a 390...or I suppose the other way around too. I guess it comes down to $$$
