I paid more than a grand for my used 088 amd I'm glad to have an original stihl big boy ,but these kits and complete saws should really help alot of people who are getting into the milling game.
Might save a few old beasts from being burned up by novices who just started milling.
Ive seen lots of threads about more money then experience, conversations that go like " I just bought my first saw a McCulloch sp125 with a kart motor and I'm going to mill lumber! " hopefully the sting of burning up a 1000.00-2000.00 $ saw will persuade some of the more inexperienced people from buying them and instead starting out with a G888.

That's extreme *s-wordting not logging lol.
*s-words all fun and games till till you topple over backwards in your fresh pile ;-)
I like to drop one and then stand up, turn around and cut it in half with my stream while I make chainsaw noises.

I would love to buy one in parts along with some two stroke books. Could be a fun mill saw project and end up as a backup, or port it and then my current mill saw becomes the backup.

The Asian 440s and 660s I've done have generally held up well if you run good oil at a good ratio (like Saber at 40:1), but often crap out if you run regular oil at 50:1.

I believe the bearings are just a hair softer than OEM and need the addl lubrication. (Admittedly, this is just speculation on my part based on my observations).

It is said that the blue G888 listed $750.

I will be buying the kit if it is under $500. Couldn't really justify spending more than that on a knockoff. Itd just be a toy anyways. The 660 is overkill for most things I do.

The Asian 660 makes for a great heavy bucking/milling saw if ported properly.

With peak HP, depends on who does the porting ... they are often closer than you would think. That said the 395 may often be a little stronger if done right ... but have not seen any of them match TM's 12 Hp ported 066s!

To tell you the truth, I don't have too much respect for either one of them stock!

The 660 is lighter, cheaper and more common.

They are pretty rugged saws.

More torque than a 395xp? I know the 880 is more comparable.
The 395 is an AWESOME saw probably my favorite Husky. On my list when I find the right one again.
But the 088 and 880 are really in a category all there own ,its quite a difference with power when your using bars over 36" - 60" . I think the mistake that most people make is that a 24" bar really isn't going to do the 7 cube saws justice, after all my 044 is probably faster then my 066 with a 24" but not a 36".

Don't even consider the big saw unless your getting out a 36 to cut stumps or the 42. I'm never felling with that beast again. Now the 60 is where it earns it's keep on the mill. That 084 has some nuts and getting bigger ones next week. Got a spare jug so it's time to dig into one soon.
