MS660 toast or transfer?

I tore down the 660 I got a lil while back. The guy I got it from just said it had a scuff on the piston. No other history or cause. It doesnt look too bad, my nail catches on it, looks to be transfer. Is it salvageable or trashed completely? And what would cause it to score like that, when I pulled the muffler it could be seen at the top right. Sorry for the bad pics. Thanks.

That should clean right up, no problem. You can use Randy's method or Muriatic acid. I would say that looks like a water-in-the-fuel score to me.

Wow, I didn't think water in fuel would cause that much scoring but it seems logical, more water, less lubrication from mix. I've seen many straight gas damage but no water damage.

Looks like transfer to me. I would agree with jj, use randys method and it will clean up easy peesy. I just salvaged an older ks cylinder off an 064 with a lot more transfer than that, like the entire intake side. You got it dude no problem!

And the piston would work back , but as cheap as they are I would not

Just an update. Acid and scotchbrite did the trick. Put it back together with new piston, rings, intake, impulse and fuel lines. Started right up and runs great.
