I'm mulling the idea of making my newly purchased MS261C lighter.

I've got a Stihl E 16" 3/8 .50 bar on it now. I have not found a bar that weighs less. Looked at Tsumara, Sugi, titanium, oregon etc. Either no 16" available or weighs more than the E bar.
I'm looking for a featherweight 16" bar and for suggestions on where else I can save some weight.

Lightweight bar oil? ;)

I believe the laminated bar you have is pretty light, I don’t think there are many options for a lighter bar...grind the paint off the bar and only fill the bar oil and fuel half way

Those type mods should be left to the professionals.

you.can always remove some material from the clutch cover for better sideways balance. Screenshot_20190309-152637_Gallery.jpg

For reference, what does your 16” E bar weigh?

All the light Oregon ones- speed cut have claimed weights around 1.3lbs I think.

You could go shorter, 15in. A carbon fiber clutch cover and top cover would be cool. Gut the muffler for a couple oz.

I wonder it there is some custom carbon fiber fabricator out there you could send your front handle to and get a carbon copy. I think Stihl built up a prototype saw that was mostly carbon all over.
