If @Redfin says it’s fooked/ finished then save some time,
The bit I pointed out, made me think, umm, not good,. Cos that’s where the piston rings stop going down and start going up.
Unless Redfin saw soothing else ?

Use a small piece of 60 grit sandpaper on that bad spot to see exactly what it is. If for some miracle it is aluminum transfer then the sandpaper will go through it fairly quickly and you'll feel it slip on the chrome... if it isn't missing in that spot.

It almost looks like there's a buildup of aluminum around that low spot. I wonder if there's a slight chance that the low spot is actually the plating

Nope, I see what you do. Big crater. Way to large for a ring.

Unless.... the bottom ring doesnt ride it. You could leave out the bottom ring but You need to make for damn sure none of that chipped plating is left.
