@166 mentioned in a for sale thread that the 64cc variant of everyone's favorite Makita has been killed off. Is this just the first step of phasing out the whole line, or a correction / re-alignment that was needed since the 6100 has been proven in the 60cc class? It has me thinking, and I wondered if anybody has any insight.

It makes sense. My 6100 has oodles of grunt en a par with my Husky 365, but lighter than the Husky and definitely noticeably lighter than a 7900 I have run. Why have two models in your brand competing with each other?

Makita stopped selling the 6401 here when they released the 6100. In fact, all of Makita's larger saws have recently disappeared from their website here in Australia. The 7301, 7901 & 9010 have all gone from their website here. Very sad really :(

That was what I had assumed, but you never know.

It probably helps their emissions average numbers as well. The 6100 definitely has some modern tech in there to help out, and if it's a volume seller, it might just help keep the 7300 and 7900 alive a little longer.

Can't like that! I have to stop missing out on all the good deals on parts saws and stock up while I can!

I got the 7300, 7310 & 7900 only to have spare parts when I happen to need any for my PS-6400! :p

Recently there was a PS-7310 on Croatian Facebook marketplace for 250$, I let it pass due to another saw I was getting.
Under any other circumstance I would have jumped on the deal.

There is nothing wrong with the 6400, she is just greatly overshadowed by her big sister the 7900/7910.
