    Hi,
I am a full time timber cutter located in New England. I have a 395 that I bought new last fall and ran very little because its kind of a dog in stock form. Im wondering if anyone on here can recommend a builder who I can send the cylinder and piston to to port out. I can do the muffler and the assembly work myself, so Im hoping to save some $$ by sending out only the Hard Parts. Also wondering what peoples opinion on here is as to whether the carb should be modified, and whether an unlimited coil is worthwhile. This will be a full time logging saw, no racing. Looking for a bump in power and good reliability.
    Thanks!!

If you can measure the squish clearance I can do the porting for you. I’ve done a few 394/5’s as just cylinders before.

@George Jones you want Shaun (srcarr52) to work over your cylinder!! I’ve run a 395 he ported and it is one angry sob. I liked it soo much I eventually sent him my 394 top end (cylinder/piston/intake/muffler/gaskets). His work is top notch! You will not be disappointed in any aspect of your dealings.

Thanks, I did yours and someone’s 395 at the same time. I think he was a friend of yours?

Tom (Trooney) had some stuff with you at the same time. Might have been a 94 too, I’m not sure. I’ve not had the chance to run his yet. We all are overdue for a gtg here in Pa.
Keith’s (psuiewalsh) 95 is an absolute animal.

I think it was Tom with a 395.

There is getting to be quiet a few 394/5’s out there that I’ve done. I even let two of my personal saws with stroker cranks go last month. I kept the fastest one of course.

The coil should already be unlimited - I've not heard of any 395s coming with a limited ignition of any kind.

I second this. I’ve never heard of a limited coil for a 394/5.

Unless it’s an AM coil, they are junk.

Does the carb need modified for his application?

Nothing other than removing limiter caps of it has them. But a little tickling on the shafts and Venturi get you a little bit more.
