I k we better, I really did.... But saw was en route anyway.

Managed to get it ported, very disappointed with the results. Live and learn right. Hope this can help others make a decision.

IMG_20220723_101303083.jpg I found oem 372 cylinder kits for 125.00
And bought one recently that's what I tell customers
Because hyway is that much now.
I don't know about the 576 kits price
There used to be a guy on here about 3 year's ago they sold me a couple of hyway bb 372 kits with the popups cheap
50.00 for both so I bought them.
Honestly they are both strong saws a bit stronger than my stock 372s
I think I have about 10 oe and a xt 371/372s
So not a ton of time on one the hyways IMG_20220809_090330673_HDR.jpg
But this one I loaned to my nephew a few years ago he ran that damn klotz and Stihl ultra in it
It's still 180 comp somehow.

I think the pop up, with the squish set is the only way to go with these big bores if they all have the large ring at the top. Normally they are half the size.

Just googleing the oem 576 are 219.00 or so and hyway is 130.00 or so
I'm sure a used oem for those 576 pregnant 455 rancher's can be found occasionally.

Thats alot closer to normal than I expected, thanks for checking.
I've got one or 2 really awful looking after market cylinders that ran well but, they all needed to be dropped to make them any kind of runners. One was dropped . 040 ! With a bgd.
Anyway I never really thought about "the ring of death" because they aren't customers saws so I just did what I wanted.
I've run a stock 372xp and I can say that the 18.00$ big bore would absolutely stomp one, not sure about a ported one ?
That Weisco piston is a pricey piece for a AF cylinder.

You should be able to run the ring a smidge over the edge without hanging it right? My main concern is both chipping the plating and ruining a cutter trying to cut the nikasil squish. I've thought of very carefully scoring through the plating up in the ring of death to avoid peeling.

That was after gasket delete and a light shave.

Yes you can but I really didn't want to risk it.

Yeh I could see these chipping out of the squish and down the bore too...

What did he do with the oem cylinder?
Looks like a nice 372
That wiseco was pricey could've got another oem kit for it's price alone.

I think a new oem kit is only ≈$30 more than the Hiway kit
I bought a oem last week for 125.00 no way I'd buy a hyway kit
I do like the hyway 2 series popup pistons they've done great in 266/268/272 beater's I built over the past couple year's no issues
If the hyway kits were still 25.00 I'd buy more
To pricey now.

This was a brand new over seas 372, it showed up with the big bore and wiseco installed. The oem made the trip too incase the hyway flaked. Almost wish it did now...

You should dyno some stock and ported Warhawk cylinders from HLS. They are dirt cheap when on deal of the day sale, and are much easier to port than Hyway. I was able to pick up some 026 and 372 cylinders for $20ea

Have you tried a hyway popup against a regular piston in any saw?
They definitely added a bit to my 266 with a 268 cylinder
Decent pistons I have a lot of run time on it.

Had some old Farmertech BB372 kits that made decent power as is a bunch of years ago now, then like everything else from them, they went away and the new replacement ones were garbage.
As far as porting them, you found out what the rest of us did, only laid out straight on a piece of paper. Bigger isn't always better when it comes to cylinders and aftermarkets are not worth wasting your time on, with just too many ways to fail coming at you when you least expect it. More times than not more power can be made with us porting them then going bigger.
Maybe just maybe folks will heed your warning with it all laid out to see better than guys just saying so. :)
