Tom recovered this outta the hog he harvested last week...100% weight retention....lol.
It's a 230 gr hollow point .45 cal pistol bullet, fired out of a .50 cal. muzzleloader with a sabot.
He used 30 grains of ff powder.... I'm thinking maybe a little more velocity next time....
He shot it head on.... bullet was in lower neck, and had penetrated at least a foot of pig when it stopped...
It must have been moving very slow to have not opened up at all.
Hog was DRT.

At most.
900 +/- fps is pretty normal for a 1911 and I'd think the bullet was designed to open up at that velocity, so I'm guessing 800 or less?
Also, most of the 230-240 grain projectiles you stuff in a sabot for muzzle loaders measure out to .429 If I recall correctly.. 44 mag bullet
are they making different sabots now to accommodate a .45 caliber bullet.?

Yes, I found sabots for .45 (.452) pistol bullets.
It's nice because .45 bullets are cheaper and easier to find as opposed to .44's

Haven't been on here in a few days. Had a sewer line collapse under my slab. It only affected the kitchen sink and dishwasher. Instead of busting up my foundation, we went out the wall under the sink. The problem----the sewer line is on the other side of the house so we had to go all the way around the house to connect to the sewer line, which is 7 feet under ground. We put 2 cleanouts in while we were at it. I rented a mini-excavator and I have a good friend who is a plumber. I helped where I could and went to Lowe's a dozen times. What a mess!!!!

Morning/afternoon folks. Going to be another warm one today. It was 102 actual (112 heat index) yesterday, and claiming to be getting a near repeat today. Maybe some rain Tuesday evening/overnight cooling things off a good deal (we can hope).
