I have seen the rot on some oak but never cedar. I actually have a couple oaks that need to be cut down that I think are going bad

I've never seen a tree twist before due to the rot and cracks, honestly I'm not sure I've ever seen a tree twist period. We had 50 mph winds last week and how this thing didn't break off and end up on his house is beyond me.

What wood were these old boat oars made from?

Circa 1940's or 50's

My dad bought a vbottom boat when I was 5 or 6 , these were the oars with the boat .

Sanded them down this morning and going to Helmsman them this afternoon

Traditional paddles were made of sassafras...

Smell or taste of saw dust from sanding. Maybe sand other known species to compare. That's why peeps that know me don't seek advice from me

The girls got more black stain and lattice to finish.
If I would have known how many man hours this project was going to take total, I never would’ve started it.

Got 4 engines for the John Deere 317 herd last night. Right now none of them run but all are good candidates for runners.
Homelite410 was cleaning house and needed them gone.
Sawnami did the relay of them.
Just about a Ranger pickup load of engines and parts.

Eventually these Deeres will be moved to the postage stamp. That's where I'll be using them. But first I have to remodel that pole shed/garage into a secure building.
