Well, the idea has merit. It took five casts, but I got a weight through a crotch 35 or so feet up, and the rope enabled me to haul myself up a ten foot smooth stretch, then lower myself to a different trunk via a redirect branch, and remove the desired limb.

What I liked was that I could quickly reel up the line after each missed toss. With a regular throw line, I’d still be there tossing it today....
Hope your day is a good one.

I went over and read through that thread.
There are more misunderstandings over there than I would want to deal with...
@RD35 made a good post on the last page that hopefully cleared up some of the false statements being made.
Probably best..

Some of those turkeys would tell ya how you’re doing it wrong anyway.

When I'm wrong, then I want to know; but it seems there is a lot of keyboard pros that can type out fine sounding words, that just aren't true...
I'd rather learn from someone with dirty hands, that can look me in the eye.

How big are the motors that you want to run? What will the motors be powering?
3hp and smaller are simple with a VFD.
5hp can also be done with certain VFD's.
Anything bigger, and it is *probably* better to use a rotary phase converter.
2 hp vacuum pump and 5 hp thickness planer. Have a 5 hp phase converter for vacuum pump.

I read it again and agree I don't think every statement is accurate in the thread. Some good info but the reason for 3 phase was miss leading. Its not cheaper power. Still paying the man for the electric juice.

It is a great break wish I could enjoy it some how I came down with a bad sinus infection .head feels like it is going to explode.

You have my sympathy. Where I used to work, there was a lot of smoke in the shop and I'd get sinus infections 5 or 6 times a year. Now that I'm out of there, I get one maybe once every couple of years. Miserable, painful, just awful things.

If you plan to keep expanding your 3 phase shop, then buy/build a rotary phase converter with about a 20hp motor. Then you can run anything you want (as long as the largest motor is <15hp).
Otherwise, you can get a VFD that is rated for 1p input that will run your 5hp planer, and you can vary the speed, as well as start the motor with minimal inrush.

The efficiency difference with 3p is significant. The full torque starting of a motor is also a significant advantage.

BUT, the cost of installation, as well as the demand charges, and higher rates per kWh will *probably* outweigh the other advantages for anything but a production environment.

This is merely my opinion though...

MS260 ran fine. Leaned it out just a touch and it ran better.[emoji108]

026 died coming out of the first cut and wouldn’t restart. WTH!

MS310 wouldn’t start. I’ll have to go thru the carb after all. [emoji849]

Farmertec started and ran like a champ. [emoji106] But wouldn’t put out oil to the chain.

I found the reason.

Geezer didn’t fasten the oil cap.
