Anyone ever repaired one of this?

I got this one from work today and she's got a small problem... lol. I found it in the trash.

It hasn't been run for more than a few hours maybe.

Nice find. I'd check compression to see if there's a hole in the piston, then put a shorter/proper plug in it.

That should be model 005793-0 and according the IPL that looks like the right plug. You may a rod cap that has come loose. Should be able to tell with piston about half way down by checking for slack vs piston movement. It could also be valve seat that failed and is floating around in the cylinder. I have seen a couple loose valve seats over the years that destroyed pistons and cylinder heads.

Also check the carb. The smaller generacs I've worked on had knockoff honda motors and the carbs would not run ethonal fuel worth a crap. We had 7 out of 20 new ones we sold after bad storms came thru, come back within days that wouldn't run. All had the same problem, the fuel had caused varnish on the walls around the needle with them running and stuck the needle open, or closed.

Thanks for the post fellas. It's in the single digits here today so I tore into this thing. It's definitely got Piston problems. This is all the further I forgot had to go eat dinner.

Threadjack! I have one of the small ones I got free. IX800, I think. Sat with gas in it and won't run with the choke off. It worked fine the last time the last owner used it but I found the problem when I started it. Is it the carb?

Yes most likely it is the carburetor gummed up with vanish. Be carefully with this one as has a regulator assy attached and I personally haven't see one of these yet but it appears one based on the Honda carbs. I believe this is a electric governor design. Looks like it would easy to though.

It looks like Generac is not going to provide individual parts for the carburetor either. The carburetor PN is 0H56810137., somewhere around 65 usd.
