I was apprehensive about using the K&n just because they don't always filter the best, but in my experience with these in automotive apps they do well when they have the mesh sock for dual layer filtering. It's not for everyone unless it actually ends up being heavy duty enough. I use a touch of three bond on each connection so there is no chance to draw in fines.

I run a k&n on my 288 and love it.

The stock metal spring that holds the HD filter down will hold this part down. Then the filter will secure with the hose clamp.

That’s what I was thinking too. If you look at the low top elbow it’s much less restricted.

It's a straight shot down into the carb, it has to make a turn but it's just as smooth as the stock filter setup. I think it's internet rumor personally.
