what substitute grade bolt could be used safely to replace a broken shear pin on the tines, I was thinking a grade 5 might work.

I looked online and couldnt find any spec on the hardness of replacements and Im nervous to put a bolt in there thats to hard

Is it a shear pin for the whole tine assembly?

Go here:

Plug in the model number of your tiller, no dot after the first 3 digits.
Get the part number for the shear pins. You may get lucky and they will state the specs on the pins.
Do a little searching online, you may be able to find a common hardware replacement for them, like a bolt.
If not, you can usually find proper shear pins cheap on ebay or Amazon by searching for the part number.

Would a grade 2 bolt not work? If you are constantly breaking those, go up to the grade 5.

I have a good selection of grade 5 bolts, I am worried they might be too strong, I am going to check the hardware store today and look for some grade 2 bolts, I just couldnt find a definitive spec on them so I think grade will work, if the shear on some light tilling I will just order rrplacements for my tiller
