I'm building a white box cylinder kit I got from HL, on sale. Squish w/o the gasket is around .028-.030. I checked a oem cylinder, piston, with gasket and got about .021-.025.
I just wanted to verify if these numbers seem accurate to anyone that's tried one.
Please don't think I'm complaining, it was so cheap I just bought it experiment with.

Mine was about .022 with .008 flashing as a spacer with no gasket. It was way to close with just sealant

Most 260's can run without a gasket and wind up at .017. 026 are tighter and they make a thick and thin OEM gasket for them. I beLive they are in the neighborhood of .009, but don't quote me on that.

I have 2-3 AM 260 jugs here sticky to play with as well. They are so cheap, they are easy to do experiments with. I plan on welding one fully shut to act as a "Cap" for the case for cleaning and vac testing.

The thin gasket for the 026/260 is one half millimeter.

Which aftermarket jugs are you playing with drf?

Last one I did wouldn't even pull over with no gasket. They're very tight from the factory.

Mine either. There's a ring around the top perimeter of the bore that hits. Get rid or the ring and there's about .015 iirc

It is very easy to make a hand held and operated cutter to remove that ring in the top of the cylinder. A simple one can be made from an old 026 piston by just installing a lathe cutter blank in a groove cut in the top of the piston, use a 1/4 square cutter blank, a simple one can be jb welded into the groove/trough to hold it in place.

It's not difficult to sand 8 or 10 thou off the bottom of that cylinder if you want it closer to .020". Flat bench and some 80 grit. Slide it across, turn 90°, repeat. Or leave it like it is and run it
Thanks, I'm going to. I just need to find that thick piece of flat glass I have.

I'd love to see a thread on this. I learn faster with visuals. Thanks for the ideas. This input is very valuable.

It has been discussed on here and every chainsaw forum I have been on, some of those threads had picts of various mandrels and cutters being used for squish band cutting. They are nothing new,we were using them back in the 70`s.

Thank you sir. I'm late to the game I guess. Hopefully I can get a mandrel sometime. I'd love to cut a squish band and learn more. Thanks for the input.
