395xp cylinder identification

Not that it doesn’t happen, but the saw doesn’t really look old enough to need seals. The awkward tune is probably from the L screw being way rich trying to compensate for the changing throttle /idle screw setting
What would be a good starting point 1 turn out?

If you ran it much, show us a picture of piston, or if you saw last piston and cylinder. Usually both intake and exhaust scored it's straight gassed, just exhaust side, air leak.
I'll pull the muffler and carb off after bit an let y'all see it. I have ran it some but not much bc I don't wanna blow it up I drowned it in brake cleaner an it never died I wouldn't think a guy would but a new cylinder an not replace seals but who knows.

Don’t run that saw anymore until it’s had a thorough inspection. The scratches and pit marks in the piston are text book bearing failure. A bearing failure would also explain the possible air leak and the running characteristics you’ve described.

Appears there's a hole in the spark plug hole threads. Cylinder is stamped mahle

Looks to me like maybe it just got dirt or dust in the air filter when it was getting cleaned out

Looks like normal wear and it ingested some fines
Sandpaper on a mandrel or scotchbrite it and run it
Somebody ran some good oil in that.

Yes
As long as the crank bearings are good
go ahead and replace seals, fuel line,filter,carb kit
Those are everything that can cause you issues later on.

That blue goo at the cylinder gasket isn’t stock. Somebody has been in there.

Cylinder looks good except for that hole in the plug threads. I would get a new piston (meteor or OEM). Fuel lines, filter, carb kit. Check the crank bearings extremely carefully. New seals won’t hurt.

The serial tag will tell you the manufacture date.

Yes. Check them closely for any defect's. Pay close attention to the rollers and cages. Check the big end rod bearing as well. Lateral movement of the rod on the big end bearing is normal. Vertical movement is no good.
Turn the crank slowly by hand with the cylinder off. If you feel any rough or tight spots there’s a problem. Wiggle the fly wheel and clutch crank shaft ends. There shouldn’t be any movement other then round and round

Flush out the bottom end and see if anything comes out
It's hard to tell when some bearings are failing.
