395XP Cosmetic Restoration

I’m one of those people that cleans my tractor once every few months and spray wax’s it.

Needless to say when I got a pair of used 395xp’s that I was going to strip them and polish them up.

First was an eBay find and the other is a @Mastermind that I bought off of @huskyboy in like new condition for an incredible price.

Both saws run great, the MMWS sounds like a banshee.

Stripped and cleaned them up, replaced tanks, lines, recoil covers, retapped threads, fuel caps, opened up the exhaust on the OEM 395, plugs, wraps, etc




Starting point for the MMWS

Paint prep, JB weld to fill in gouges

Kind of the lazy guys paint prep right. Didn’t want to take apart perfectly working saws.


A little more JB Weld on the bottom.


And a few other spots. Wet sanded some rough spots.


Replaced some screws and rethreaded

Yes I didn’t get every single gouge, but I’m not that bats*** crazy.


Again, not perfect but nice. First time doing this to a saw also.

MMWS starting to come together. Flip cap everything. Also, added the stihl pull, it makes life easy. As you can see the rusto paint is a nice match literally couldn’t see a difference as I sprayed over existing paint. Had to let it harden for a week tho.

I can’t find an OEM clutch sticker with the line under the Husqvarna. Older style. This is an AF. Even HL & partstree doesn’t have it. This is the MMWS

Didn’t want to disassemble everything or crack cases open. Plus it would have been $$$

Had to tap and rethread the eBay saw. Even added a little Marine-Tex because the holes were huge.

I used a two forms of JB. The sausage and the one that comes in the injector. The injector being the one that flows better.

Just completed the saws this morning. Sick(fever) at home and needed something to do, can’t get them to the property today to test out.


A lot more little things went into the saws then listed pictures show it mostly.


Sugi 36” bar and a hard nose 20” on the eBay saw.
You can also see, the exhaust mod somewhat on the eBay saw.


Very happy how these turned out. Started as a winter project then winter never happened for us down here. The folks at HL and PartsTree were a great help.

Thanks to @huskyboy for passing along such a great saw. You know it’s good when it scares the wife.

Your method makes changing out the screen if needed easy. Plus it looks factory. It’s awesome when mods look like they should have been there all along.

Three pulls on a dry system and this thing was on and ideling perfectly. No adjustments made yet.
