Yep. I tended to turn down doing those projects (or clamshell homeowners saws in general) because you end up charging the owner more than the saw is worth for labor and parts. Porting and rebuilding one of these saws really doesn’t make sense when a pro 70cc husky/stihl can be done up for about the same money. Heck... I just had a 288 done up and had 400 bux invested. That’s close to the 300-350 some ask for a farmboss on craigslist. If all a guy needs is a homeowners saw I get that... not everyone needs a pro saw. But when they wear out just buy another and use the old one for parts... you’ll be money ahead.It fastens right on, but it's a PITA and much tougher than rebuilding an 028, 034, 036, etc. For instance, the clamshell design forces you to remove the tank housing. So, your bench will be filled with parts. I have done it without removing the bar studs.
