I built the 036/044 hybrid. So you are using the 044 crank in the 034 case? I was wondering when I was building mine if just a longer rod could be swapped to make it easier. Keep updating, I’m wondering how it works out. You can see on my build how I got the 044 carb/ choke linkage/filter to...
I used an aftermarket hyway cylinder so I think it had a bit thicker base and may have not fit the same as a oem cylinder. But I was closer to .050 off both the case and cylinder. It needed very close to .1 off total to get squish tighter

I think I documented all the issues. Lots of work to get everything to fit right. Still one of my go to saws to use.
For brazing stainless use Harris stay clean flux. It’s pretty nasty hydrofluoric acid, be very careful but it’s one of the only flux that will etch the stainless well
Norway spruce are very tolerant and will rarely get needlecast. (Unless turf sprinklers hit them multiple times a week they can get it).
Chlorothalonil will work well. 3 applications would work best. You can do one before buds push then one at half elongation and then another 2-3 weeks later.
I do tree disease control for a living, most likely needle cast. When it’s only holding onto one years growth it’s almost always needlecast. The lower branches don’t get as much sun or wind so it usually affects the bottom first. They really need full sun. A few fungicide applications before and...
It weighs less than my 044. I would assume it’s a few oz heavier than a stock 036. It’s actually my favorite saw. It always starts right up. I only built it to just do it for fun. I didn’t know if it could be done. No other reason. I had a Bottom end with a bad crank. So I built it with a...
I’m going to try to make it again. for some reason I’m not getting notifications to my email for replies to this thread. Sorry for the late response.
It should be just about the same weight as an 036. I can’t imagine the slightly larger cylinder and piston weigh much.
Not much else, still runs great. Swapped an oem carb on and it runs and idles much better.
It’s my favorite go to saw i grab for medium sized stuff. It feels much lighter than a 044 but has noticeably more power than an 036.
The compressor needs to be running to add freon. Try jumping the pressure switch to see if the compressor clutch locks up and starts it spinning. You could also run 12v directly to the compressor clutch to turn it on
Some stuff from them works some makes a good paperweight. Hard to tell, even if someone got something that worked fine, the next batch may be messed up. If your trying to fix it cheap and don’t mind tinkering, go for it. Usually takes about 2 weeks to arrive
