Was wondering if anyone knew what rod bearing and wrist pin was needed to make a 395xp piston work on a ms660 connecting rod as I was thinking the 660 was a 12mm pin and the 395 was a 13mm pin but I may be wrong don't have either in front of me. Thanks
Has anyone done this? Seen a video of one on youtube but no details or proof of it being done.
If you have done it what was all involved and how did it run compared to a normal ms660 and a normal 395xp?
well was playing around this putting stuff in the combustion chamber on my ms260 and ended up casting some aluminum and holding it in with a bolt and using jb weld as a gap filler.
compression came in at 245psi before breakin it in. after about 5 mins of run time the insert failed from to...
was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the ideal timing numbers for a ported ms260 work saw.
let's ignore cylinder limitations, for example if u think the best numbers would be 106/120/80 even tho that's not a common achievable numbers just want people's thoughts on what the prefect...
I was wondering what the limits were on how flat you could make the intake and exhaust roofs?
I know the worry is snagging a ring but couldn't you get around that by really beveling the roof? and with the roof really beveled would there really be an increase in ring wear?
just wondering what...
was wondering what you guys thought about porting a husky 460 rancher.
I'm gonna rebuild the carb on my brothers rancher and turn it up while I'm at it. plan so far is muffler mod, timing advance, and I'm gonna make a pop up piston.
but as far as porting goes I don't ever really see people...
hey was wondering if there was a metal oil pump gear out there for the ms260 instead of the standard plastic one.
I ordered a new one off fleabay but it doesn't fit I assume it's for the non adjustable oiler.
Hey was wondering if this was a common problem with this saw?
So saws not mine and I haven't looked at it yet (my brothers) but he said after his saw is warmed up he has to hold it wide open to get it started otherwise if he starts it and and goes WOT it will die but he can burp the throttle...
I was wondering what you guys thought about combustion chamber mods? I have seen where some people have made removable heads and I have filled in a chamber with brazing rod (haven't ran it yet) but both methods allow you to recreate the combustion chamber and set the compression without lowering...
I have a high compression ported ms260 that's a real pain to pull over I was wondering if there is a different model decomp I could use to make it easier as I already broke the recoil once. timing is advanced around 5 degrees and squish is .018.
just tired a ms290 one but it won't start with...
So I emailed Mahle the other day with questions on where there Stihl Pistons are made and this is the response I got.
Dear Mr. Thompson,
We do not make pistons for the Stihl company ( haven't for many years), you should contact the company directly with your question.

Thank you...
hello everyone first post here,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a bigger carb (venturi) that I could swap on a poulan wild thing and still maintain the choke function.
this is for a project saw where I went in and aluminum brazed the cylinder head to up compression. I'm sure the bottle necks...
