Ported 261C
Base gasket delete
Machined .015 off half the piston to create a domed piston keeping the exhaust and transfer numbers the same while gaining a few degrees on the intake.
Muffler opened up to 80% of exhaust opening
I’m getting a lot of excessive carbon buildup I assume from unburnt...
Has anyone ever experimented with having a full house chain with no spacer links? A cutter every tooth. It’s for racing purposes only. 066 with a 12 inch bar cutting 8” logs.
I know in a larger log it would probably have issues clearing the chips

I’m not sure exactly what happened but the skirt on the piston is broken on both sides. I don’t know if that can be caused by the bearings going in the bottom end?

Rebuilding a 372 for a friend of mine that had the piston blow up inside. I haven’t had a chance to check the timing wheel on it yet four stock numbers. Just seeing if anybody was willing to share some timing numbers for a reliable work saw.
Also all of my experience has been with Stihl so far...
Has anyone come up with a better air filtration system for top handle saws yet? Starting to get sick of putting carb kits in

Two out of the four bolts holding the top and down were slightly stripped. Just enough that there was a slight air leak. This was causing it to lean. Going to throw some timeserts in and try again

would probably be able to torque the bolts a little bit tighter wouldn’t you.
Do you happen to know what size those bolts are off the top of your head?

Two of the four bolts that hold the cylinder in place on my Stihl 461 have stripped out. Does anyone know if Heli coil‘s will work to fix this?

I’ve been experimenting a lot with the Stihll 261c. Trying to get a bit more low-end torque and for running a longer bar. I end up with a lot of falling and processing jobs on second growth timber In the small saws are great.
Anyone had some success with these kinds of builds and wants to...
I have a fired on set up. That looks like it would mount onto it potentially. Where can a fella get a hold of one?
The foredom catalog doesn’t have anything like that it seems

Deleting the base base gasket on the Stihl 261c’s typically takes the squish from .040 down to .020 which I’m happy with. The intake and exhaust are easy enough to to grind on to get back to stock timing numbers. Having trouble with the upper transfers as the cylinder doesn’t allow much room to...
I’m honestly not sure how to tell which version it is. I’ve let it idle with the Mtronic switch in the down position for 90 sec which I thought is how you reset them.
Do the different versions have a different procedure?
Also where do you find out the version #?

I’ve added a max flow foam filter to my stock 261c. It now leans out when you come off the trigger. Even resetting the carb doesn’t seem to help.
I have some experience porting saws but I’m unsure if basic porting will help this or possibly the carb needs to be drilled out to richen the...
Update.
In the meantime I’ve managed to use 3/8 LP on my 3/8 bar. Cutting efficiency is improved. Saw has a bit more torque. The low pro rakers work with the sprockets but because they are a bit smaller the chain is prone to popping off quite a bit easier if you are not square with your cuts...
I never thought about LP. That’s the same chain that I run on my 201tc I believe. Does the 3/8 LP require a different sprocket or nose tip that 3/8?
