I have a little Echo that is another one of my formerly abused and neglected chainsaws....But I've turned over a new leaf now...I got it running again (yanked off the carb adjuster limiters and got a spline tool) and decided to give it some extra room to breathe. It's a small one, but still a great saw. Now it's straight up fun....First I got rid of the catalytics in the baffle and put a hole in the front of it. This helped. But I wanted more, so I cut off the front of the muffler, took out all the innards (baffle), brazed a pipe and new cover on. It's probably not tuned perfectly because I finished late and just wanted to get a video. I'll play with it some more...

jk14....us guys with little ones gotta make em look big, right.... ;)

Will do that Agent Smith...thanks!

We heat our home with wood and so I gotta cut a lot of it. Have bigger saws for the bigger stuff, but I cut a lotta smaller stuff for kindling and to get the fire going. (And the smaller stuff creates that nice big hot fast fire when the house is cold.) My smaller saws are just the ticket for cutting a lot of this stuff up. Puttin a leather jacket on the little beast just makes it fun.... :headbang:

Happy to have found OPE....

I wonder what would happen if I did that to my Echo CS-670? Good Grief!

I'd likely have to wear both ear plugs and ear muffs at the same time. And, in Post #3, don't you mean open up that high speed needle a tad? Usually a muff mod like this makes for a leaner mixture. Just MHO.

Dont you hear it going in and out of four stroking in the cut? Its too rich. An 1/8-1/4 turn in will clear it up

Ferguson, I do enjoy this saw....It's smoother than my others....What is that object you posted? I might need it...

Wood Doctor....you could bring down the trees with just the sound...

Agent Smith, I turned it in a tad....Let me know if it made any difference.

Here is another vid...a comparison between saws. This thing is snappy....

Yes it sounds a little better. Probably could go another 1/8 turn in but I'd run it like that for a few cuts, shut it off immediately, pull the plug and observe the color. Should be cardboard brown to dark brown

Its a rain cap for exhaust pipes, usually see 'em on tractors and construction equipment. When you start the engine, the exhaust smoke keeps the cap raised. When you shut it off, gravity keeps the cap down. Your saw needs one, I think!

Operator skill can add alot of cc's to a saw. My dad heated our home with a Homie Super 2 when I was a kid and I seriously wondered why anybody would carry those 70 cc cinder blocks into the woods when a little top handle was all you needed. Unfortunately, I didnt inherit the chainsaw skills gene, so I have some bigger ones in my arsenal!

The Stihl in your vid is fairly new I take it? Acts kind of sluggish to my non-expert eyes.

It's all good, P.M.P.....I think maybe the moderators should set up a beginner's area on the forum here for dudes like me... :)

Thanks, Ferguson....funny I was thinking about that too (rain going in, though it doesn't rain much here)...That cap would give it even more wow factor, especially if it had some clank to it :) ....I know during the summer here I'm gonna have to put a cap on it when I'm not using it. We got so many critters that would love that tunnel! Agree about the cc thing....I've taken down some sizeable trees with my small saws (it wasn't too easy)....but for my purposes (taking down smaller trees, trimming, getting firewood), what I have is plenty. I live in a desert not a forest! Plus I absolutely hate spending forever sharpening those longer chains....My brother got me the Stihl for Christmas this year. It's supposedly all tuned up and ready to go....The exhaust is practically a pin hole to make the EPA happy. If I mess with it I void the warranty. And mess with it I shall!....I want to wake that sucker up!

We were all beginners at one point. Many lose sight of that fact as they become more experienced and forget they too were the "new guy" at one time. Have fun, build what you want and ask questions here

I think the best not you could do from this point is shorten up the tube you have and angle it to the side. Then sharpen the chain. Likely the chain may not take to sharpening well without power tools. Usually when they get that till the cutter gets so hot it hardens the steel so much you can't get a file to cut into it.
