2 on H kinda worries me. it is at low end of range. did it lose power at 3 turns on H

I took it out to around 3.5 turns or so so it would for sure be rich. It was 4 stroking a lot, so I started turning it back in 1/4 turn between cuts. It started running pretty good back at 2 turns. Maybe that was due to the L being a little rich?

mine always seem to change up a little after new kit is exposed to mix for 24 hours. not much but a little. just trying to save your cylinder. as diaphragms get older expect to adjust screws out a little more. L has little effect on wot

Plastic poulans with no AV vibrate like heck IMO too. Just got used to the coil spring AV poulans and got spoiled.

I just fired all three of them up. I put a new section of fuel line and a filter in the last 4218. It still needs some tuning work, or a new carb. It doesn't want to idle right. The first 4218 seems to be doing ok. I need to get it in some wood again to finish lining it out. I fired up the 2150 because I forgot the spring was missing from the H needle. It would be fine with that fixed. Didn't seem to vibrate near as bad as I remembered. Not exactly smooth either though. You think a hardware store might have a little spring like that? Or is it something that would have to be ordered specifically for that saw?

most folks that work on them will have several bad carbs laying around with that spring. the 4218 that won't idle right try loosen and reseat carburetor they are bad at sucking air at seal between carb and intake.

Ok. I just picked up the smallest spring the hardware store had. I don't know if it's small enough.

Good news and bad news. The spring I got is actually too small. The hardware store should have one that will work. This one goes in the junk drawer.

Ok. Here's a video for all you folks who are helping me with these saws. I already made a couple cuts and tinkered based on some of the posts in this thread. Here's what I've got. H screw is 2-1/4. L is 2-1/8. Idle screw is in a little to help me tune by keeping it running. While I'm typing this on my phone, the saw is idling to verify that it will run. Idle sounds a little fast. Every 20-30 seconds the chain will advance a half inch or so. Any insights as to what's going on? From what I've read 2-1/4 isn't enough on the low, and 2-1/8 is too much on the low. It's been 3-4 minutes now, and it just loaded up, stumbled, and died.

Filled it back up and it ran for 10 minutes before I got back to it to mess with it. Baby in diapers. Anyway, the chain was still moving a touch, so I backed the throttle screw out a little. After I did that, it did load up and die. I'm assuming that the throttle was open too much, the L was open too much, and the H was not open enough. Or maybe the throttle and the L will cancel each other without a huge impact on the H. What say ye?

H is not in play at idle. Sometimes saw will speed up when you turn L screw in a little.
L screw must be out enough to allow for easy start in enough to allow idle. When you pull out choke on the 4218 it activates a fast idle. Every thing we are talking about here assumes we have a warm engine with choke fast idle not in play. Many saws will move chain a little at idle. It's a chainsaw not a swiss watch

These sure as hell aren't Swiss watches. Mexican, maybe.

Is the H jet in such a position that it doesn't affect the air/fuel ratio at all at idle? At a cold start, the typical purge bulb a few times, full choke a couple times, half choke once or twice and it runs. Do the turns seem too far off norm? I assume the throttle should be turned in a tad, and the L turned in a little. Maybe that would get it close. How bout during the cut? Seemed kinda weird. Seemed like it was too rich, and swapping between 2 and 4 stroke. It would pull good, then suck, then pull good, then suck.

Is the chain sharp. If so move H screw in 1/8 turn. look at diagram of a carburetor there is a idle circuit and a high speed circuit

I just sharpened the chain. So, turn the H in 1/8? I though it was suppose to be out 2-4 turns?

try on log if still losing power you got to clean it up to 2 stroke only in the wood. if it still 4 strokes part time got to turn H screw in a 1/8 of a turn to clean it up. number of turns is a guide how it cuts wood is the important test.

I've got one 4218 just a tad past 1.5 L and just a little less than a tad past 2 H. I made a video to post, but it sucked so bad I couldn't tell wth I was cutting, so I'll have to get another one later, when it's not so dark. Have I mentioned I hate winter, cold weather, and the winter solstice?
