Those predator engines are not bad for the money, I have a 4000 watt genny with one and it starts easy and runs like a top. It hasn't been run a whole lot. now a hunting buddy has an 8ooo watt one with a predator and it has had the snot run out of it. never a problem and still runs fine.

Just bump the key and it is running ,i will keep the orig powerplant ,it must be old miltary issue ,it is drab green under the yellow paint.
if theyre maintained, they are one of the easiest starting engines!
ive got a TJD on my splitter, I started it for the first time since September, last week, the battery was dead so I charged that, and she started right up, the start button isn't even pushed all the way in before its already running...
green was the factory color for a lot of winsconsin's, and equipment manufactures usually painted them whatever color they wanted

I take it i missed something over at arboristsite .
every splitter engine problem thread where most suggests to replace it with a chonda because all them old B&S, Kohler, Wisconsin's are gas guzzling hard starting scrap piles...cause ya know 50+ years of reliable service with minimal maintenance aint nothing compared to the chonda that "hasn't given any problems for the 2 years ive owned it" followed by, "when it dies, its so cheap, ill just replace it with another one":risas3::risas3::risas3::risas3:

My skid loader i use around the house broke a piston ,when it did the rod broke ,broke the cam also ,i had a little dozer i hauled in for scrap ,the engine was full of water and locked up ,i had those jugs bored .020 ,got new pistons and gaskets off ebay for 300 bucks or so ,a buddy of mine did not charge me to grind the valves ,do the guides or bore so that was a plus ,so out of the 2 engines i have a runner for 300 plus my time ,my 1999 snorkel lift had the same engine also ,seems like a common powerplant for equipment .The old engine was tired ,had 90 psi in the good holes last i checked so it was due for an overhaul anyways ,skid loader has a lot of hours on it so it does not owe me a thing really for the work i get out of it . i have forks and a bucket for it ,the forks are great for moving logs ,and for the sawmill .

my THD is somewhere close to 60 years old, it was completely apart when I got it...it came off a JD baler with a lot of hours on it, the jug had surface rust, and was pitted on the bottom of the cylinders. I honed the cylinders to clean them up, they were stock size, with little wear so I left them stock, the valve guides were/are worn, just enough that it burns a little oil...should have replaced them!
both plug holes were striped out of the head, so I fixed those, rebuilt the carb, had the generator rebuilt since its electric start I need it to charge the battery, then new crank seals, and a gasket set, I have around 400 into it. its always starts right up...if I get around to changing the valve guides its should last at least a few decades before its needs another rebuild!
