I'm now presently on my 3rd rebuild on my little YZ125 hotsaw I built 35 years ago.
Got it running clockwise right hand drive "finally" thanks to its new PVL bi-directional racing ignition I just installed. If I had the PVL 35 years ago I wouldn't be doing this today.
*As first pic shows originally I had it right hand drive with chain cutting backwards, cut like crazy but a real hand full to hang onto.
*2nd pic 1989 rebuild regular clockwise rotation but left hand drive. Ergonomics was PITA.
*Today on the bench getting the new "under the engine" exhaust profile with clockwise right hand drive.
*PVL ignition not cheap but worth every penny. Exact same ignition running high end kart engines at 20K rpm.
*Reason why I originally bought the 1982 YZ125J engine. Was a one year hit wonder even in todays 125cc standards. 31 PS/HP at 11,500 rpm at the rear wheel. Torque peaked at 11K. That's with transmisson, water pump and silencer muffler.

When I'm done she will weigh under 30 lbs with b/c and fuel.
Got a LED Performance cone pipe in the plans to finish it off.

Husky 372 OE that was woods ported. Thought would dig a little deeper to see why it has such low psi tad under 120psi. Ring looked fine and caber. End gap was good in cylinder when checked.

Some scuffing in cylinder. But the porting or lack of is what got me. The base gasket couldnt have been oem. .022 think and come off in pieces. Never ever recall any of mine coming off like that in years past. The squish without gasket .030. So it had .052 squish with base gasket.

Reringed anyway with new caber and gasket delete. Hopefully it will at least cut with the stock NE 372 and 576 that out cut it in past testing. Was with 24" bars buried in dry ash back then. Guy uses it has his limber trim saw.

Oh he brought a new aftermarket muffler someone modded on ebay. The triple port oem one was shot.

Thought I’d share the dream saw that’s finally on my bench. Behold, the saw built by @Onan18 and @redlight066. I can’t thank you enough for this tremendous gift. By the way, it’s a Husqvarna 372XP OE that’s ported with a muff mod and equipped with a full wrap, west coast dogs, and a 24”bar and chain

What Solo model are those? I am looking for a 665 or 681. Not necessarily NIB or NOS but most certainly like new.

Wish me Luck!!! I've done 5 of the Asian Big Bore's so far, and a couple of them run pretty darn well, This has been a "practice porting / learning curve" project for me, I try to make each one run a little stronger than the previous one.

So, today I went back into saw #1 and did more extensive work than I have done on any so far. Wish me luck that it all works when I fire it up tomorrow,

Saw #1 has a New West Big Bore jug, a used OEM piston, and a 460 OEM Walbro carb. I had lowered the intake and put in small bride ports.

I did not change any of the timing #s, and I recorded them as: Sq .21, Ex 101.5, Tr 118.5 and In 79.5.

So today, I widened and flattened the intake, increased the size of the bridge ports and improved the upper transfers a bit, and did a lot of work widening and flattening the inside of the Exhaust port and opening up the outside of the exhaust port.

My work is not as picture perfect as some of the pros on this site, but I think it will work. Wish me luck!

Hopefully, this project will be a success and will be at the CT GTG.

(Notice: No OEM jugs were damaged during this hacking!)

I took this 361 in on trade last week. Muffler had rattled apart and had sucked up a small piece into the combustion chamber. Luckily nothing’s hurt. Had a regular customer look at it Saturday and say oh I need to get my dad something for his birthday, he needs a new saw. Sure when is your dads birthday?........”Next Saturday “. Last of the parts showed up yesterday. My son graduated college yesterday so here goes...
