Nothing overly special, but here's a good bucking saw I just finished up. An old 034av I picked I'm up as a box of parts a while back for 20 bucks on a local yard sale site....had it together pretty much stock, but it fell in the river while running so I did another overhaul on it, this time did some work to it.

Chinese nickasil MS360 cylinder and piston, Caber rings, base gasket deleted, slight timing advance, ported muffler, ported intake/exhaust/bottom of transfers swaged and polished. 20" bar w/RSC chain, chain wasn't the greatest that day. Cutting a knotty 20" Norway spruce round. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

One “epa” saw I actually like better than the old ones is a 461 over the old 046. The 046 I had was a fuel hog. I can cut more on a tank of gas with the 461 and it makes the same, if not better power than the 046 does. It runs smoother in the hands and balances better IMHO. There will always be a bias for anything old... but not all new things are junk. Some yes... but not all imo.

I've actually read a few great post the last couple weeks stating what many know, but few seem to want to admit, this is one of them .

The 261 is clearly the stronger saw. I run 18" 3/8 square file on it w/o any problems. You grab it to limb with, then you just don't stop using it unless the bucking gets large.

The 026 has 16" .325 and does just fine with that. I call it my lightning limber, but it will not buck like the 261.

Funny story, me and a large/strong friend of mine had to run up to his property in the Adirondacks and clear a driveway and an area for his cabin. It was just a day trip, we left early and worked all day long, and the driveway has a reasonable slope. We were mostly running the 044 and a 460, but at the end of the day we each wanted to be running the 261! True story! When your arms get tired, that saw feels nice!

Wonder if somethings wrong with the 026, seems pretty weak from what you're saying.

50cc saw good for average sized firewood and you can get into the occasional big piece if needed. Probably the most versatile size saw for the average person.

You calling me average lol.
I really enjoy running the 50cc class saws, cutting 4-10" wood they do a great job, and can handle a buried bar with an 18x.325 if needed(but not my first choice). The best thing is the wood you get with them is also easy to work with, breaking out a 90cc saw for firewood means a lot of work getting them rounds, good thing is I get to have some fun noodling them down.

They're just cheapies that came with the jug kit I bought a while back, I think from Dave. I gotta make a slightly smaller set out of good tool steel for this saw eventually.

If they work who cares, probably nice on the big root flares.
The only thing I don't like about larger spokes is you gotta run a bigger bar, then you just add more unneeded weight, I do like that they keep the from of my saws perty though.

The 026 is great at what it is supposed to do great, limbing, real fast. The 261 just does more.

Now this could just be my opinion but I wouldn't want the dogs made of anything too hard. I'd rather have the bend than damage the saw.

I'd like to try it, if it's that much stronger than the one I ran this simmer then I may consider one. As it is I already had quite the disappointment with them in stock form, especially with all the rave reviews, and I haven't ran any others stock that were any more impressive.

I want an 026 with a 261 air filter, or a 261 with screw fuel/oil caps.

I use a thinner tool steel, it WILL bend, but it takes a lot more than those damned farmertec junkers.
