That's a perfect lineup! Most of us could prob get by with 1 or 2 of those but where's the fun in that. I guess that's where the addiction and stuffs comes into play.

How reliable are 5105's? Any weak links or negatives to them? Filtration probably "sucks" compared to other brand 50's. They look like a strong saw. Only dolly I don't have but they've had my interest.

Can’t speak for a 5105 cuz I ain’t gots one, but the air filter on the 5100S stays relatively clean.
The nylon mesh filters flow great and are a snap to clean anyway.

Kenneth got a ported 5150, then proceeded to sell his ported 6100..

It runs like a ported 346, as far as rpm and throttle response.

Hmm...yeah I have a ported 64/7910, stock 6100, and mm 421...thought maybe getting a ported 5105 but was curious on pros and cons. Thought maybe I could sell the 6100 if I had a ported 5105...then sometimes think port the 6100. Decision decision. I would imagine the 5105 must feel more nimble and be lighter than 6100. Although 6100 has superior filtration and a ripper when ported. Here I am rambling again lol.

My 7900 makita air filtration sucks worse than anything I've seen. Greased around the filter base and still passes fines. It's about to get retired till I find a vstack setup

Really? Damn...guess I need to put mine to work more. I guess the HD setup is better but more restrictive? And I personally think it looks like poo even though I'll prob get a negative reaction on that. I like the lie too look. I know there's a bunch of different stock filter material options though.

I cleaned my elbow and all. Greased around the filter and ran 3/4 a tank thru it then pulled the filter again. Fines all in the elbow already.

The non-HD nylon filter is best

Ahh gotcha. I've heard people complain the 5105 carb can't supply enough fuel for a ported saw. But I see plenty ported running great? Hmm
I guess it depends if you’re cutting cookies or firewood or how insane-o the builder makes the saw. Because really....this could be said for many ported saws.
Lotta guys complain about the ZAMA on the 7900 and go through the hassle of putting a 372 carb on them....but I’ve got no issues with the stock carb on my extra banana 7900/7910 and I’m sure there are many here that’ll tell ya how well it runs.
