I'm all 'bout longevity in all my machines. Whatever is going to make it last is what I'm using.
Higher viscosity = higher film strength. Most chainsaw 2T oils have a viscosity around 8cSt. Racing 2T oils can be double that or more. A richer tune will not change viscosity but different temperatures will.

That’s the thing with saws, a richer tune will run at a lower temp. So technically a richer or leaner tune will change viscosity.
How does this happen if the oil and gas are pre-mixed in a tank?

OK. So our 2 stroke oil has variable viscosity? Like 5W30 oil for 4 strokes?
I would think if one ran a rich tune that it would just add more fuel and oil. I wouldn't think that the oil would get thinner or thicker.

I think what he' s saying is that a leaner tune, by making the engine run hotter, makes the oil hotter, making it less viscous.

It's all a function of temperature. If the temperature didn't change, the viscosity wouldn't change.

Or that's the way I'm interpreting it.

Ok here’s a test for ya, put some of your favorite 2 stroke oil in the fridge. Then put some in a pan on the stove and heat to 200 degrees. Which oil will be thinner than the other.

PS. You may want to use klotz because in will make your kitchen smell wonderful when you put it on the stove.

OK. I appreciate the insight. Not trying to be a douche. I didn't know that 2 stroke had sort of a variable viscosity. I thought it was just a constant. Like using straight 20W20 vs. 5W40.
I think I got it now. And I won't be cooking any Klotz. LMAO

All oils thin as they warm up, be it single or multi viscosity.
