That is a Robin that could be my sidekick any time...

Any idea who this guy is? Is he a local? He looks a lot like a friend of mine that would do something that dumb but he's not local to you, but has done some firefighting...
Your friend name Ron?

You think he came back up with that ax?

Dunno, but having fell through the ice twice accidentally, I can say yes, anything in your hands will be used to help get you out will be hung on to. It was actually an axe that allowed the distance between a friend that allowed him to pull me out. The other time I was on my own and had to use the ice Spud in my hand at the time to help myself. A nice warm place to retreat to would have been nice either time. :)

The one time I went ice fishing here my buddy made sure we all had a screw driver at the ready to help claw a way out of the ice.

I've never fallen through, but I helped a fishing buddy get out once. He was carrying the auger and casually tapping the ice in front of him while finding our spot. Walked into a thin area presumably from a spring, and went through. I was dragging a portable shanty and threw him the rope while I stayed a few feet away. He put the back of his neck against the ice and got his knees up to the front side of the hole and pried himself out in a matter of a few seconds. At least we weren't too far from the warm car

Must have made an impression on my friend, he made a hand tool that could be carried while out on the ice for all his friends the next Christmas.

The time with my friend we were out trapping beaver, chopped through two foot of ice and caught a blanket beaver that day, I remember it well as it was -44F degrees below zero. I had the beaver in my pack basket and on the way back to the snowmobile I fell through to my shoulders. After he pulled me out, we rode to his house and I couldn't move to get off the sled the outer layers of wool having froze solid, underneath though was fairly warm once it skinned over with ice, never complained about the itch of wool clothing since. Good thing he was fairly stout and grabbed me by the collar of my coat and dragged me off the sled and in the house, where he parked me by the wood stove until I could move again. Lol

The time I was by myself I had crossed a lake and had gotten to close to some weeds that didn't allow the ice to be good. I used that tool my friend had made and pulled myself up and out once the ice quit breaking. This day was warmer and I had on cotton clothing, that was farking cold walking back across to where the pickup truck was parked. Fired that thing up and took off every stitch of clothing I had, then drove home naked as a jay bird. Luckily no traffic stops that day. Lol
