I'm not sure either Chris. I think the newer one's have plastic cages though. I bet @Tor R can tell us.
I think you have right Randy.
I dont know exactly when they changed the bearings, but the bearing has part number 585 97 50 01 on new 372 nowadays.
I've never seen those bearings myself, the two 372 I have is the good old classic ones

When the XT first came out they were having PTO bearing failures far too regularly. If my memory serves there was an issue with the machine that was pressing the bearing into the case. The bearing was crooked in the bore. That of course gave the model a black eye in many people's mind.......but the issue was fixed pretty quickly in the model's timeline.

Big bore it. 272,,52mm jug N slug.
Lots of power in a midsize nimble saw. Make sure da crank N bearing s are in good shape ..
Definitely will put a cheesy AZZ grin on yo face when you bury it in sum hardwood.:pesas:

by putting a 272 on it only boost it up 8 cc more , from 66cc to 72cc , is it really worth doing

Alignment of bearing is paramount on anything that uses bearings .Especially on high speed applications .

I don't know about you but I would never turn down a little extra. Oh wait were still talking about saws?

Yeah and honestly, you have to ask yourself if your going to use it enough to pay for the change over.

would want to use it for slabbing if possible , not real big stuff
Do you have any other saws that are bigger? If not you get the big bore kit for the 266, then you can get a 20 and 28 inch bar for it and be super set

I live 40 miles from smith fastener in wv the metric and sae bolts are made exactly alike on the same production line why they cost so much more ill never know.
I might call and see if they'll sell to an individual not sure if they will.

They're just M4 & M5 socket head capscrews. Getting all the right lengths is the trick. Fastenal. Grainger. EBay is where most of mine came from.

A lot of the 200 series saws have 1/4 x 1" capscrews for jug bolts. I always wondered why they did that when the rest of the saw is all metric

You can get the self threading ones for plastic tanks on ebay
