Nice! Any more pics of the sassafras? Never really seen it in lumber form.

I wonder if you could ratchet strap the stack to minimize warping. Maybe use 2 or 3 of them. Idk I've never done it but it seams like sassafras will dry quick.

I tried ratchet straps on the stacks. Every week or so it would shrink and need tightened. Still didn't stop it from warping.

That makes sense. Just looked like it would hold it together good. I didn't think about shrinking.

cool i look forward to your pictures. I just got my Mill on Monday, and i have yet to have the chance to put it together. I'm hoping to get a chance to do it tomorrow. I did have the chance to run the 084 through a few pieces of maple, OMG the thing is a beast. :)
I messed up welding on the handle (tire Iron). It needs to be more towards the operator.

Good call on welding the nuts to the frame, those things are such a pain to adjust with the saw on there. I'll be doing that soon as well. Let us know about adjusting the handle too, I'm curious how much it'll help.

My first attempt at milling sassafras. The 084 cut through it like butter.

You mentioned spending might rile up The Boss? Now make her something real pretty out of that gorgeous wood and you'll never have to worry again! :) She'll probably ask you if there is anything else you could mill up, which would lead to..."oh yes honey, but if I only had this...". You'll figure it out. :)

Lol she's already given me the," you could have bought 50+ pieces of what ever wood you wanted for less than the cost of your "cheap " mill speech" and the "there better be a bassinet comming somewhere out of all this speech" she's gonna really lose it when i have to tell her i need to buy wood for the bassinet. .....:)

So I haven't been online all that much these past few months. Life has been throwing me some pretty hard curveballs and it's been all I can do just to keep my head above water.
Between losing my car to a fire, then losing my job and capped off with two funerals of close family friends within 2 the last two weeks. I've been pretty frazzled.
I did get the saw back from mastermind, and have run it only a few times. It's absolutely amazing. Like having a different saw. That also could be due to the chains, given to me by several outstanding members of this board. I am attempting to learn how to square file and it's a work in progress.
Hear is a pic of some Larch I've been waiting on for the past 2 years. You can see it's just started to blue. 20160704_151440.jpg 20160704_151450.jpgI cut it over the holiday weekend while I was re arranging the driveway.
This is a bread tray I made out of another sassafras log.
It's roughly 15 inches long by 6 inches wide and I cut it out of a full quarter of a log.

It's been a real battle for me to deal with the depression. I know there are plenty of people worse off than me but that only makes me feel worse, with a kid going to college and the baby on the way in August the weight of the world seems to be just a little bit more heavy.
I've been talking meds to help with the anxiety, but I still have some dark days.

Sorry for your loss. Things will get better. That's what I keep telling myself. I'm looking at all the same hurdles your facing except the bun in the oven.
Had to shut down my business because it was more like a charity with bad pays, slow pays and no pays. The worst part was one of the companies I trusted and worked for for a few months this year stole a fresh ms460 with bars and chains. Cops don't give a damn tried that route. Now I get to do all the fun stuff like lawsuits and such. Odds are I will not collect but, nobody's getting anymore freebies. Decided to sell everything but some saws I'll keep and take some time to sort things out.
Look on the bright side. You still have your health. Dust yourself off and get with it! Your family needs you the most now.

That bread box/tray looks great. Love how the grain curves on the ends.
How do you hog out all the waste wood?

Please make the time, every day, even if just a wee bit of time is all you can spare, for those things that just feel if not good then don't feel bad. For some, it's a small walk or jog, for others it's playing with wood or talking to their kid/s or playing with the dog or whatever. Could be anything really. Just find something that gives you just a wee bit of peace every day, regularly. Sounds corny but I believe it - it's darkest just before dawn. In those low moments, when you feel really down and then feel guilty for feeling down and questioning your sanity, just know your not the first and won't be the last, but if you can get through the darkness, there will eventually be a new dawn. It comes on slowly, minute by minute until the light starts to fill the day again. It's a natural cycle, not anything to be ashamed of or feel guilty for.

My advice may sound a bit corny, but give it a try anyhow. I've gone through a lot of crap in my life, and it can be tough, but you always have to be there for your kids.

My advice, develop an exercise routine you do at least a few days/week. Not only is exercise good for you, but your mind needs a break from the stress, and almost nothing else will ensure that it gets that break. A good exercise routine will necessitate your full attention, giving your mind a much needed break from the stress.

Also, please try and wean off the drugs, they all have bad side effects.

Best of Luck.

Yea the drugs they will give anyone these days are just plain brutal. My next surgery I might just tell them, "hey, I'm going cold turkey here so just get it done right now why while I'm awake." lol

If they make you fell worse speak up man. I hate morphine and always pull the line when I wake up in recovery. I'm more of a demoral kinda guy. Me and potent opiates don't get along. They make me ill.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, the meds they are giving me are anti anxiety ones. They help take the edge off.
I try to get out and take walks with the dogs, I try to hike and fish once a week. Try is the operative word.

I use this on my grinders, it works like a mini chainsaw I hogged out the majority of the waste wood with the Lancelot .Screenshot_20160710-134424.jpg
I use the "holy Galahad " below, for smoothing , and final shaping.
