I'd have to check one of my 700's as it looks about the same .BTW I have the exact same set of 1/4" drive sockets .Those usually are good running saws .I think I have one very good model and one that got "needled ".

This one is what I would call eager to run.
If you start it cold within 2 weeks of last running it, it normally only takes 2 or 3 pulls with choke on and decomp pressed to pop, and if you can get the choke slapped in fast enough it will run without another pull.
Yesterday it only took about 6 pulls to pop, and was able to push the choke off before it died. Blipped the thottle to take the fast idle off, and she was ready to rock.

My oil tank and cover are grey. The crankcase / cylinder is bare metal.

I think the carb is a 44 but all I can see stamped there is F6 side closest to needles and 88 on the other.

The air filter knob is steel, knurled and slotted.

The starter handle isn't likely correct. It's hard plastic.

Interesting note, I just noticed I bought that saw on December 5, 2016 for $30 CDN. It's a very good runner!
Mine also has an 11 prefix for serial number. Rest is 049124, so definitely older if they were using sequential serial numbers.
Havent seen that air filter knob on any ive run across.
The grey paint and that knob tells me it may have been some of B&Ds later handiwork. Werent some of the "Titan" models grey and yellow?

I am rebuilding a PM 55 and piston is pinned but pins are both in intake port . Is this normal ? Had a broken ring and a wear spot on intake port edge. I have chamfered this well but am worried about hanging new ring in port. It looks like it came from factory this way. Also trying to find rings that fit with flat ends

Yes, that is the correct spot for the ring gaps. The rings never go into the intake port. If you think they hung up there then you have some seriously damaged other parts. Like falling out bearings or a badly bent and shortened rod. Neither of which are highly likely. The broken ring can be caused by a number of things. The mark on the cylinder is probably the effect of the broken ring, not the cause. Mark will be the best place to check for the rings.

The MAC with the most grey paint has got be the 8200. A bit of a boat anchor at over 18 lbs and mine is a bit of a beater. Runs well though. It also has the heavy AF knob.

I think the 4 digit saws like the 8200 and the re-labelled 700 as a 4300, both launched in 1992 were introduced when MAC was circling the drain.
The 4300 uses the same IPL as the 600116-02 700.

I'm guessing the odd AF cover knobs were a by-product of the Canadian assembly plant. There were a number of things done differently up there over the years.

I have an ample supply of the 92517 rings for the 1.8125 pistons with the pinned rings, $8.50 + shipping.

BTW there were also 4-digit 600 Series saws (5700), 35 cc Plastic Mac (3505), and a Mini Mac (3200). I still need a 4300 to round out the 70 cc 10 Series models. If there was a 4-digit 300 Series release, I've not seen one that I can recall.

Well I got the new oil pump from Mark yesterday & I put it in the E.B.2.1 today & it still won't oil.It doesn't matter if the tank is full,on
it's side, upright,if I stand on my head & sing.It just plain refuses to oil.I can try putting a dummy line in it & see if that works, but I'm running out of options here.Might as well chuck it in the pile of other useless 300 series saws.

I've got a bit of a dilemma with the 5-10.In all my haste to get it running I neglected to look at the air filter until today. It's the domed filter used on the bullfrog carbs (I believe). The part # is 65740.Am I screwed here,or is there another part # that I'm not aware of?I know Mac loved changing their part #s.The flocking is at least 50% gone.

I have a 5-10 IPL that calls for 68520...put up a couple of photos of what you have, I believe there are a few different styles up in attic.

Just updating everyone...as you probably know my younger brother Ed passed away on 7 August and my older brother Ray has been battling cancer for the past year and a half. Last night Ray lost the battle. Things will be different moving forward.

So sorry to hear this.
Ive been an only child since 16 May 2009.
It gets better after awhile.
Hoping you can look back and remember the good things.
We all have an expiration date.
Its what you do before it that is important.

Ed - I'll try to find a better copy of this but it may help you troubleshoot the 300 Ser oiler trouble.
