I plan on keeping them both. The 440 is even ported. It is very versatile in what size bar it can run, as I bet the 400 probably will be.

Mr Awesome
I couldnt get rid of a good ported 440 tor a ms400. Never really liked the 362 vant believe the 400 is that much better stock or ported.

I don’t like the 362 in stock form. It’s tolerable in ported form. I’m here to tell ya the 400 is much better than a 362. It’s got 70cc power in a 60cc package. It’s the saw that most of us hoped the 441 was going to be.

Yeah the 441 should have been a 77cc or 82cc saw.

I’d walk past a herd of 462 to use a 400.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. The 462 never really did it for me. It seems like fellers either really like the 462 or they really like the 400.🤷🏼‍♂️

I got both my 462s before the 400s were out, but I've got no complaints with them, and they are my go-to saws.

Almost surprised Stihl came out with 2 saws with close to the same ccs.

The MS400 is built the way the MS362 should have been built. Front fed transfer ports are a game changer.

This 400 I got from you runs as good with a 20" bar as an early 462..and kevvy ported both..so..close enough. For a 20" bar a 462 has no advantages over a 400 from what I can tell.

It doesn't have the ass with a 28" bar that these new ported 462s have...we tried it yesterday, but it's still worthy, scott wants to use it to climb with a 25" bar and a wrap handle, but he's half my size so he likes a smaller saw...we'll see how it goes.

I had to remedy the AV on this 400 to keep it from feeling like a threesome with 2 fat chicks in a half ton on a longer bar...but I don't like wobbly saws..that's a personal thing.

If I was gonna pair a bigger saw with a 50cc saw it would still be a 462 instead of a 400...but that doesn't take away from the fact a 400 has a niche.

Real world experience is a valuable resource. Thanks for sharing. I don't use a saw like you, so having you put this stuff out there matters.

The 6100 is a bad dude....but way too heavy for 60cc. And the carb can be a nightmare. The MS400 is light, and mtronic. That places it far above the 6100 in my opinion.

I can see where you’re coming from with what you’re saying 400 vs. 462. 28” bar and I’m not running either a 400 or 462 though. With the way they’ve set up their line up the 462 is kind of the red headed stepchild between the 400 and 500/661. There isn’t enough difference for me between 400/462 to justify grabbing the 462. I’d rather run a 7910 or 661 for 28” hardware. Even hanging off a spar. Having said that I don’t deal with many trees I couldn’t block down with a ported 400 and 25” hardware. When I do I pull up the 7910. I really can’t tell the difference in weight between that and a 462. Well I suppose I could ask the weights and measures dept. to put them on a postal scale I guess🙄

I can't tell the weight difference in most saws between 60 and 80cc to be honest, I just use it and don't even think about it.

They feel the same to me which is exactly why if I had a 50/70cc combo I'd take the 462 since it has more power.

If I only had 3 saws maybe I'd go 661/400/201..idk..doesn't really matter to me, people are gonna do what they do.

Agree. It’s much the same with me. 661/592/7910/500/572/462 feel very similar to me. They are all little to no vibes and I can’t tell much difference in weight. Especially since my lazy áss doesn’t have to go more than 300’ from the truck on any given day. That xs 7910 is so much fun to run I always grabbed that instead of a 462 and the 400 is light enough I can limb a 70’ spruce in 5 minutes after I’ve flopped it. In the tree I can tell the difference between those 4 and the 400 for sure. It’s different hanging off a tree by rope and spurs though. If I had to sell all but 3 saws I would keep 201t, 400, 661. Might even keep the 7910 instead of the 661 because most people would rather over spend on the used 661 vs. 7910. I can pay the bills with just those saws no problem. At the end of the day it’s a personal preference thing. Really no wrong answer they all eat wood and shít saw chips at the end of the day.

I've often thought a 261/400/661 would be an awesome three saw plan for me. Any smaller than the 261 and I'd rather use a battery saw because the job is probably tiny. But I don't climb trees or work up in the air at all.
