Any particular reasons why? Not calling you out, just wondering. Around here, the nice MS-250's are priced like a new saw and the cheap ones are very high mileage.

I've worked on a few dozen of the condom saws they do not react well to modern ethanol fuel
Or setting around unused
The overly long lines degrade and air leaks are common in that series intakes.

Thanks. None of this is set in stone, I may yet end up with an MS-250. All my two strokes run on BP 93 octane/40:1 VP Synthetic/1 ounce Stabil Marine fuel stabilizer per gallon and I don't have any fuel related problems. I did replace the carb on my 440 not long after I got it, the previous owner probably let it sit around with untreated corn gas.

So, the 445 in the pic is not a strato engine? I thought all the 400 series were strato.

Any day of the week I'd buy or recommend a echo or even a zenoah clone for less than a 100.00 over any homeowner Husqvarna
It's sad how they ruined that series.
I've had at least 12 zenoahs bought by neighbor's over the last 7 year's I haven't had to work on any of them
Now my neighbor's homeowner Husqvarna is a different story I've had to fix several of them.

I used my 394xp for half a day cutting big beetle killed pines , easy task for it. Until it spit the lower muffler bolts out somewhere in the forest.
I certainly like using a 90+cc saw for dropping bigger trees but after 5 hours I was ready for a lighter saw.

So, working on rebuilding the 281 I picked up.
Measured squish....055, hmm.
Ok, gasket was still on the case, removed...still over 40. I don't have a lathe so...

Maybe it's worth sending the cylinder out to have base and band cut? Lots of guys on here with lathes and experience.

That’s what I was thinking. I have the original cyl that I cleaned up and have added a nos piston, as well as a nos p&c. Both have the same huge squish. Id rather use a stock gasket so would need the cylinders turned down with that in mind rather than a base gasket removal.
Question is…who has the time?

I had the rattler lathe a cylinder for me and it was spot on.

Yeah if your gonna have machine work done, I'd stick with a gasket for sho.
BGD is for po folk, no machine work.
