Looked. The 166 price is headed to the moon and the 9000 has some red flags. I’ve gotten burned on too many ebay saws.
Agreed. on all that you said. I want a 166, but not that bad. If I am going to spend that kind of coin it better be in good shape. As for the 9000, yea, there's a good chance they are hiding something.

I did buy my DCS7901 on fleabay 10 or 12 years ago in good shape for a little over 500 shipped. since then it been through the fire.... Literally.

Fair thought. Unfortunately my pockets are like the ones in girls pair of tight jeans. Tiny and frustrating. Still, I’ve got the Dolmar bug.

Dolmar’s are really great saws all around. When you go back and compare what Stihl was producing at the time these were being manufactured it’s hard to understand why they didn’t do better. Solo didn’t really produce a “modern” series of saws until the 600 series was produced in the 80’s & 90’s. I mean back in the 1950’s and early 60’s they were certainly ahead of the game but stumbled real bad in the 70’s with the headquarters move to the US. They made plenty of interesting saws during that time (Solo Twin, early 600 series) but never really captured a market share. Dolmar actually made the 694 for Solo. Kinda weird. Anyway, the Dolmars are my favorite but I have a soft spot for the Solo’s as well. I have quite a few in my collection.

I got bumped out of two 166 auctions when the bidding got too high for me. One , quite memorable, went to $4500 for a so-so example of a 166. Was even missing parts. That just blew me away, as well as every other 166 owner who was watching. Two weeks later I posted a Wanted ad and wound up buying a beautiful example from a member here for $1500. You just never know.

I’d like to join the wanted list for a Solo 681- I guess they’re still made overseas? Jacob J. Mention a while back that there might be a few dealers willing to sell to the U.S. if we were willing to pay the shipping. Any help or contacts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for any direction-
Justin
