i like valborie files i think thats how you spell it....sometimes when they are hard like that you have run the file the kind of forward to get the file to take a bite in the raker then you can file like normal. at least thats been my experience. although i have not bought a new chain in quite some time
just read this i missed some words i fixed it now. i sound like a dummy sometimes... lol

Ain't sayin it’s the best, just what I had. Got it in an auction. It helps keep a bond between the cutter and the material from happening and reduces loading. If your files are too soft it won’t help.
I’ve got a few tubes of tool wax that I might try next time I square up something.IMG_1795.jpeg

Side plate is too thin here to last for real cutting

I'll put these up here just incase someone is interested. Took them to show someone how much of the side plate contacts the wood. It's just a straight edge lined up with the corner of the chain but it also shows why semi is less efficient.

So, side plate bite and long tooth makes for an efficient and fast cutting chain?

Here ya go ,
.404 .050 chipper! Old scoopy scoopy! Side plate for days and 1/2" long cutters! Too bad supply dried up years ago and its not available at Tractor supply.
Just messing with you guys , but as you can see one feature of a chain isn't always the answer for efficiency or speed. Although this chain does throw planks ,not chips.

I bought a 25ft roll of old carlton 404 063 chipper last week. I have never run it before but I'm interested in how it will work and if it holds an edge as long as they claimed.

It sure walks through this pile of beech I'm working on nicely. I kept taking more and more off the depth gauges.
The smoothness of square is maybe nicer than the increased speed.
