Looks like ur top plate is under cut to much , especially the far cutter , for hard wood, more like this.View attachment 419851
Appreciate it, got to try it today.. cut like crazy until I hit a bit of dirt/rock in the bark on a big Oak round. Didn't get a true trial cause of that but it looked too beak-y Guess I'll set the down stop a little higher. Was wondering about the 10° lean or on Jolly Evo front/back movement.. heard that using it might reduce the beak and make it a little more durable.. think on regular leaning grinder base it's right-away for the lean but with jolly it'd be right tooth towards?
Edit: right tooth slid towards me.. right as closer tooth comes closer and further tooth goes further?

You’ll get there,👍 I’ve been free hand filing for a few decades, it’s all repetitive motion now , and the rakes or depth gauges are as critical as a razor sharp chain , a smooth cutting chain is a fast chain, Ur cutter profile all depends on the wood and conditions , as to how you want ur saw to perform.

I've realized that with these type grinding wheel it's important to clean the oil and dirt from the chain.. that never mattered with the resin wheel on the old HF grinder
Yea , it definitely helps so the wheels abrasive doesn’t get loaded up quickly,

On my stihl USG I offset the cutter away from the wheel as stihl grinds their chain. It does support the working corner more.

Any recommendations as to what to use to clean the chains beforehand?
i use a foil baking pan and gas let them soak a while then i wire brush them and blow them off with compressed air. just make sure to get the crap out it doesnt take but a minute or two.

I didn’t bother cleaning much with my round grinder. Usually try to run the chain in something clean before I put the saw away. Had some dirty ones for my square grinder. Hit the inside of the cutter with carb cleaner and then air. That’s the only part to worry about, messing up your wheel.

23rsp is real fast out of the box. Hard to duplicate, hooky and delicate. I think @Armbru84 tried squaring it now that I think about it. Said it wasn’t any faster. Maybe @PA Dan . But maybe square could be a little more durable, less grabby, and sever chips vs. choking on them better. @species8472 do you guys race it round or square?
I square mine some just use it straight of the roll.

i dont know what the chain was that my buddy brought me the other day it was a smaller stihl chain that i made square it looked like it probably cut ok out of the box. it was noticably softer than stihl chains used to be. i didnt have to go very slow to keep from overheating it.

I'm suck at home with a cold and started looking at a manual for an old Stihl FG2 my dad bought back in the 80's. There some strange recommendations and I decided to try them. They recommend using 3/16 files for 3/8 and 404 back then so lets follow the book and see what happens.

Oregon EXL. Filed 30 / 10 with a 4.8mm (3/16) file.

IIRC, old Dolmar/Oregon recommendation is 5.5mm round file from new till about half life, then 4.8mm till end of cutter life.

I think Stihl just says 5.2mm round file throughout the entire cutter life.

So technically there is no wrong file diameter as long as it is kept at the correct hight under the cutter.

I believe someone down under even files with 6.0mm on 3/8" chain, and we have seen round grinds with a Little-c cutter profile.

It all works with some cons & pros!

That top plate looks to be under cut to much, in smaller pic , to thin ? and is the edge rolled over in bigger pic on cutter ? 🤔
