Better include this just in case anyone needs to know the depth gauge setting for their 1/2 chain on a 090 G

Bunch of random pics of cutters

I'm suck at home with a cold and started looking at a manual for an old Stihl FG2 my dad bought back in the 80's. There some strange recommendations and I decided to try them. They recommend using 3/16 files for 3/8 and 404 back then so lets follow the book and see what happens. Oregon EXL...

Bunch of random pics of cutters

I have a couple of C85 loops, the factory grind is a bit to fragile for the wood I cut but it is really well made. Consistent cutter size and shape, files nicely, just a well made chain. It's quickly becoming my favourite as well

New Husqvarna S35G .325 058 Semi. The more I see of the husky chain, the more impressed I am with them. Very high quality, well made stuff. The factory angles are very different to what I normally run but I'll give it a try.

Bunch of random pics of cutters

I'm in a strange place where I can think of quite a few semi chisel chains like RM or 27X that I like but I can't think of a full chisel that I would say is great from start to finish. I just got a loop of husky S85 and S35G to try out. I think my round full chisel days are done. It's going to...

Bunch of random pics of cutters

New out the box Stihl 36RS. Dear chain manufacturers, stop grinding small, fragile beaks on chains trying to wow us with out the box performance. About 50% of the cutters on this chain have a damaged corner already because they are to fragile to be transported from the factory to a customer in...

A friend pointed to a video showing a NEW hop up technic

Hey I'm on your side here, I want people to stop thrusting their rod into you and opening you up, it's just unnecessary

A friend pointed to a video showing a NEW hop up technic

If he is a friend of yours can you please teach him how to sharpen chain. I have seen a few of his attempts to out cut new C83 and he is clearly lost. A 7/32 file, 30 across, 10 down, side plate at 70-75, top plate cutting angle between 55-60, depth gauges with a husky progressive gauge...

Bunch of random pics of cutters

Round Hexa, attempt number 2. First time was with a 2 in 1 and it cut horribly. Bounced and jerked, just to much side plate angle for the wood I'm cutting. This time filed 25/10 with a 7/32 and a reduced side plate angle. Much better. Difference in cutting speed Hexa shape to this round...

Not yet. I don't have any 050 325 bars at this stage

Bunch of random pics of cutters

More updates, Polar opposite of the carlton .325, this A3LM done with a Pferd 3 square is probably the fastest and smoothest cutting "work" chain I have ever used. I would take this over RSL every day. It's pure crap round filed, factory grind is awful but the thin top plate is really well...

Following up on this. Didn't work, Still cuts like crap. I hate this chain.

DOLMAR/MAKITA The Official Sachs Dolmar Dolmar Makita Dolmar Chainsaws Thread

    119dl bar is a old Windsor speed tip. Just measured it and it's 101.5cm overall. I have a few odd size Windsor D009 bars. A 24" 404 that's marked 76dl but only fits with 74 and a 26" 3/8 that takes 89dl.

DOLMAR/MAKITA The Official Sachs Dolmar Dolmar Makita Dolmar Chainsaws Thread

I'm really feeling this today, even swapping to the 8 pin didn't really help. EXL just doesn't load it up with the 20. It's been 14 years since I last ran a 36" on it. Tomorrow it's time to try again. Pulled the bar down off the wall and found the 119DL square skip chain I had for it. It's been...
