I was big into dirt bikes in a previous life. I ended up with some remnants of that old life hanging out in the garage. I have a complete bottom end with a new wiseco piston and rings, two jugs and 3 different heads. Do any hot saw builders use any of the parts off these old monsters to build with?

Better pictures. I built one back around 2008 in a YZ 125 frame. It was stupid fast but never made it further than a couple test rides.

Never rode one, but always heard they wouldn’t hold a candle to the CR 500.

The CR500 outclassed them once it went water cooled. Engines of the same vintage air cooled they were both brutally fast. The CR500 and KX500 kept getting R&D for a few years after the 490 got killed off and they are stronger and more refined. The 490 did have that air cooled big bore ping that gives me a chub every time I hear it.

That thing looks alot like a blaster motor. Would be kinda neat to stick one in a blaster frame and have some fun

At one time that was a very popular swap. Biggest obstacles where a handmade pipe and setting up the kicker to work right. I had an 87 in high school that had been massaged and it would break your foot if you didn’t find TDC and kick it like you had a pair. And always wear boots kicking it over.

Once I discovered 4 stroke and electric start, my kicking days were over lol

That is very convenient, but there is just something about a perfectly tuned 2 stroke that always puts a smile on your face.
No I agree but for around here, 4 stroke is what you need. Buddy of mine has a banshee that's done up nicely and it down right scoots. Its definitely fun to take for a rip down the road. When the power comes on, hold on

Mine is all day trailable. But they are a very easy machine to take down the rabbit hole.
