Perfect example of why you shouldn’t try to tune a saw without a bar and chain on it or at a minimum the clutch cover.

I had something similar happen with a Husky 2100, that's the first and last time I've started a saw without a clutch cover!

So, OEM's really mean it when they say NOT to run a chainsaw without the bar and chain on it? You know, I do not think I read that in my Atlas 80v cordless manual, I will have to check that out :-D

I seem to learn a lot of stuff the hard way. I ran a Solo Twin (for the first time) with the clutch cover on, but no bar and chain. The clutch got into the cover! As said above , the same thing has happened to me, except my stuff wound up in the next zip code, not at my feet. I will run a saw sans cover and bar now, but just to warm it up at idle. But if I’ve got to really run it at all, it will be with bar, chain and cover.
