Folks,

I’m on the lookout for a 357XP or 359 crank.

Also a good used or new 357XP Oem jug.

Hopefully that crank is good too! Is that a 15mm? If you aren’t sure, what’s the serial number?

How is a used cylinder and a new piston at “halfway to new price” worth doubling the price for a new cylinder?

I guess it depends on what you're doing with it, and the condition of the rest of the saw. Actually, $80 is a bit more than half. Plus the time to clean one up or trusting that a hack like me did a thorough job;).

I shop exactly like you do, so I'm not trying to scold you. Most guys that have good 46mm jugs on the shelf probably won't let them go for the $45 I stated either.

No worries man:beer-toast1:. Good luck with your search. I have two of them but I have two carcasses and a box of spares to build this winter.

Yeah, it’s all perspective.

Jacks small engine has an OEM kit for $153. plus shipping and it’s about $165.

A meteor piston is $32 on eBay, with shipping included. To me, I don’t need a $45 cylinder to come out on top, as long as I can find a used cylinder for less than $133 I’m ahead.

What you didn’t pick up on either is that I would need a crank too. More $. So after a replacement crank, and a new p&c, I’m into the saw for more than the saw is worth, and I still have to put in some sweat equity to get there.

I’m simply evaluating taking on a project, and investment cost is a real consideration for some of us, especially with the holidays coming up.

I feel ya. If the $60 between a used top end and a new one is the deciding factor for you I'd probably pass on something that you haven't bought. Too many other things could go wrong with the build.

Why do you even mention something like that to me here?

Your math hasn’t made sense this whole thread, but thanks for your opinion, please move on if you aren’t interested in offering anything up for sale.

https://www.ebay.com/p/7015615386 357xp oem... hard to argue with that price.

Maybe hard to argue with but $125 + tax (yes, eBay now charges tax) is $137. If a meteor piston is $32, I would think a used cylinder would be worth less than $105, and be the better route to go to save money on a build.

And why is a part request thread getting mucked up with people telling me to buy a new part? What’s the point in requesting here if the community has a used part if people who don’t have such part available are just stopping in to say buy a new one???
