The only maple we have around here is soft maple I believe?

The one branch I see doesn't look like an evergreen tree, so I stand by my Maple guess.

I'd also voucher to say a maple, possibly red maple or sugar, hard to tell with out shape of tree, leaves, fruits, etc.

That dark heartwood is a maple characteristic for sure. The bark looks a bit smooth for a hard maple of that size and a little rough for a soft maple, but I’m from Vermont and don’t know much about trees out west. For that reason, I’m out.

I thought hackberry at first glance, but the bark on the one piece didn't look right.
