Today I messed around with my 056 Magnum’s ignition. I used a stator plate from an 041 with the points and condenser removed, an electronic chip from an early 024, and a flywheel from an 045. It fired right up and idled fine, responded well to some throttle blips, but then died under WOT. So I switched the coil for another that I had. Same thing. I am thinking that it’s the IIDA chip from the 024 that is causing the issues. I ordered another on eBay. I’m a fan of the layout of this chip more so than a Nova II or Kawasaki style chip, because it utilizes the stock Stihl ring terminal connections instead of blade connectors. But if the one that I ordered also craps out, I’ll be going to a Kawasaki module.

Not on the bench, but on the dinner table. Husqvarna 55 that I got from the saw shop pile. This one is actually in excellent cosmetic shape. It appears to have been straight gassed. I have an old closed port cylinder that’s been sitting around that I’m going to try with it.

The cylinder had a couple of gouges in it, but they are small, down low, and have been cleaned up with the grinder.

Unfortunately, the only 45mm husky 55 piston that I could get my hands on was a little red barn one.

I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t super pleased with the piston. It looks like it was cast and machined ok, but the squish with this piston (a pop-up) and no base gasket was .035”. The wrist pin was tight enough, but not as tight as factory.

I figure let’s run it and see what happens. It sure is a pretty saw though.

I think I have gotten two non-popup pistons from them and running them with base gaskets and they run great. I have not measured the squish, but they fire up and run without issue. Both cylinders have some marking from previous scoring, but both are open cylinders.

A local guy who has a handful of saws I have built brought me a 372xp oe for some help. The upper inside bucking spike mount was busted out and leaking oil. He said it couldn’t hold a candle to the 365 special I built for him and he wanted to fix that also. I got a case half from @jacktheripper and swapped it out. Unfortunately the saw had a Farmertec piston & cylinder on it instead of OEM. The owner decided he didn’t want to spend the money for OEM and asked me to warm up the AM top end. Of the AM cylinders, the FT variety are the only ones I will grind on, so after warning him of the risks, I went ahead with it.IMG_0828.jpegatt.X05bBxWUCFPSEQmwBJeogIceF1MFZPZDXo9qRINv48E.jpegatt.HYsTbuGSbjPRHG8hed42_F0_FCIuBlFMU7hGgJIQi1E.jpegatt.vouQrJtyFREDqXBCKIPSvoPa7iPSNZqufHtAAR9lEgw.jpeg

If that's the 365 SP I'm thinking of, it had the exact same issue crop up, and I fixed it with a case swap as well. Only difference was the whole case face just popped off instead of the hole wallering out.

I got the new module in today. The part number is 1118 400 1001 and it’s called a “trigger module” by Stihl. I am running it with and 041 points coil and plate, and an 045 points style flywheel. It runs great!
