Do you really need to open up for lower transfer? The bearing cup is quite small, I would have thought it wouldn't be that bad in terms of size compared to NE and original there

The Rancher is done, tore it down so I could do a thorough job of cleaning it and inspecting everything to make sure it is good to go. Starts, runs, idles, oils as it should. This is the third 455/460 that I've had in the shop in the past week or so, they are really fairly easy to take down for cleaning and inspection.
The Poulan is currently disassembled and cleaned. It is a clamshell design as well, but the crankcase bottom is a separate aluminum piece so I take the 4 screws out to remove the engine intact and use some shorter screws to keep the engine together while I clean and check everything.
