The kill switch is the round push button to the left of the trigger lock.

Good guess but it's not a 285. The cylinder shroud and air cover is a one piece cover. I'm thinking a 480 or something similar, I just don't know those series that well...

Based on the top cover and the thicker starter housing- I'm thinking it's a 280S. Sawtroll would likely know for sure.

The rear handle isn't right and it looks too small to be a 480/480CD. The 480 is a pretty large frame saw.

If you can get a bore measurement that would help. Also, pull the starter cover and see if it's a points ignition set-up.

I'll get a pic with the air filter/shroud off ans see if I can get a pic of the ignition. Bore measurement might not be feasible as it's not my saw... The body of the saw is a lot smaller than a 285 BTW.

What do you think @SawTroll?

If everything is original it is a 180S, and not one of the earliest ones (those had a rear handle like the one on Acres site, similar to the 65/77).
The later models (280/380/480) all had different rear handles/tanks, and the top cover doesn't fit with a 160S.

It's close to this one. Mine may be older, no OPL, muffler outlet in the bottom. Mine has a Tillotson HS89A carburetor that is not listed in Acres. I'd really like a peak under the top cover of the OP's friend's saw.

This one has a Mahle jug marked 52ZN1++. 52mm jug.

.....

The WS manual lists the HS-122 for the 180, but that doesn't mean that they all had it (the manual was written well after the last 180s were made).

Your's isn't among the earliest either, but it looks like it is a bit older than FullChisel's (serial number).

The 180, 160 and the 260 were listed with the same HS-122 in the WS manual I have, so that wouldn't explain the different carb.
