Any one have a saw that they have to adjust the tuning every time they take the saw out? My two main weapons are a 362 and a 288. The 362 will run good in 6 degree weather or 75 degree. Saw warmed up or cold. I never have to tough the carb needles. My 288 on the other hand. Every time I take it out I have to spin the high 1/8 turn or so. Sometimes in some times out. I never had a saw so picky.

The hda87 on the 262 are notorious for being a finicky carb, even on stock saws, RJW4 is another pain in the rear carb. The Tilly on the 288 usually aren't bad at all for me, ported or stock.

yep, is a drf joint.

Mine is mastermind build and I don’t think there is an issue with the port. Just looking for a some similarity.

One thing to check would be the needle springs. My 288 tune would change throughout the day quite a bit. New springs and problem solved.
I’ll have to look into that. The do have resistance when turning the needles. I’ve had one saw that they were real weak and I couldn’t tune that one and chalked it up to an air leak and shelved the project.

Don't forget about the O rings and washers under the springs.

It’s the muffler mod that makes the saws more finicky. Choke that 288 up if possible and see. My bet it less power but less need to tune.

We trade off reliability with performance. That’s why I like MT (when it’s working) so much. It removes the tuning variable.

I built an 026 for my buddy. Damn thing needs a different tune almost always. He’s probably gonna burn it up, so I have it set super fat so it’s rich enough all the time.

Maybe I’ll try a stock one and see if that makes a difference.

I have no problem tuning it’s again, more annoying then anything. I guess it’s a good thing that I keep it in check

As long as the saw isn't stupid lean I make very sure they are fully warm before I touch a screw. Believe it or not it cuts down on over half the tuning sessions just by that

Agreed, a lot of my saws are rich until I make a few cuts.
