Tillotson HS carbs?!?

When looking at the Tillotson HS carbs how does one know the jet sizing?
Can the stamped codes verify anything number to number?

Short of their application charts that is…

As far as i know the numbers stamped on the carb are for identifying the specific design of the base model of carb. The jets would have to be figured out by measuring or possibly the parts lists.

Yes and an IPL would only be useful if the jet was a separate part, a lot of the old HS's were permanent made into the main body of the carburetor. I really don't know or haven't seen any information for this from Tillotson on this size carburetor.

I've never been able to find any reference to main jet size. I'm guessing you know the 218 came of a J'red 630 and the 230 came off a 670.

As Stump Shot mentioned some HS carbs have a removeable main nozzle / check valve and some are cast into the body. Both of your carbs have a cast in nozzle.

Just for the heck of it, you may be able to contact Tillotson and see if they will give you that information.

Correct yep the 218 off a 630 and the 230 off a 670.
I just pulled one off a Jonsered 920 and it’s a 219.

I got looking all over the online documentation from Tillotson and short of matching up the model carb to the given application they don’t expand on the fuel delivery of each model.

Would be nice to figure out for carb swapping and fuel delivery options on future saw tuning etc.

I didn't know they were closed! The web site seems to be active.

V.E.Petersen Co. in Ohio is their major US dealer

Maybe it was a temporary covid thing. I do know Husqvarna had Walbro make carbs for replacements of HS and other Tillotson model carburetors. Bought a few for 288xp's as you couldn't find any Tillotson's they were all sold out. I see the website is updated with a 2023 stamp on it so maybe they are going at it again.
