I got several loops of safety chain on a HD 6401 purchase a few years back. Id never run it on a saw, but it might make a fine blade.

That's one talented sum'bich right there, I have a good friend who's been making knives for years and has just got into pattern welding, maybe I'll try and get him to make me one?

@sunfish care to share your professional opinion on the video?
He did a good job there. It's hard to forge all the inclusions & flaws out of a chain billet. Chain will make a decent blade, but not all the parts of a chain are the best steels for a blade.

I make a lot of damascus (pattern welded steel), but have only used chain a couple times and that was years ago. I do have a lot of old chains that I plan to weld up at some point.

Every chainsaw nut should have at least one knife made from saw chain. :)

cool thread my grandpa was a blacksmith for the b&o railroad and got into the boilermakers back in the 40s im 3rd generation boilermaker there was my grandpa a couple great uncles 3 uncles and there are just 3 of us cousins doing it now blacksmithing is part of the boilermakers union
