True, but it was a good find and is a great price....once he has it then we can celebrate again!! 🤣 🥳
I've occasionally had a Craigslist seller back out last minute after some back and forth messaging, setting up a pick up. After cursing them like a dog it occurs to me they may be some lonely bastard that just liked to talk about saws. :(
Gotta stop reacting

About 15 years ago a gentleman phone me and told me to check out a CL listing. He spotted a Wards WD-79 or WD-99 in a CL listing 2 hours south of me. The Wards WD-99 had the West Bend 820 engine and the WD-79 had the 610. The man calling knew I collected all saws with the West Bend 610 and 820 engines. I took a look at the listing and sure enough it was a WD99 or WD-79. The seller wanted $25 which was a helluva deal. This was on a Friday afternoon and the next day I would be driving right by the sellers location on the way to the State Fair. I phoned the seller and he assurred me he would hold it until the next day. After I hung up I pondered a bit and just hopped in the truck and made the 2 hour drive down that afternoon. I figured even though he said he would wait until Saturday I would rather just go immediately.

I got the saw ...

It appears to be an OEM Mahle cylinder. I need to pull the jug to see the markings on the base flange. But can anyone confirm if these markings look OEM? It fired up, but refused to idle. It’s flooding out, so I’m going to pull the carb and mess with metering height/pop off. I think this is a truly nice saw.

Definitely not a KS. I only have those, no Mahle

Do you trust someone else's work? I would be a little hesitant.

It looks like OEM components: bearings, crank, and seals. It spins freely without binding. Everything looks clean. The previous owner said that the guy that he bought it from had it “rebuilt” at a saw shop in Jackson. That can mean anything, so I assumed that it meant a top end was put on it. I think this is actually quality work done by a real Stihl tech. Looks like new impulse line, wrist pin bearing, fuel line. I think it was done right.

That is cool to hear, I guess a vac test to make sure everything seals and you won't have to worry there!
