I was sorting through my bin of large(r) Stihl smalls and I found an unknown Stihl plastic bit. Long story short, even though I've never owned an 084/088/880, I had a chain deflector (p/n 1124 664 3600) for one floating around. Since I don't own any of those saws, if anyone here needs it just cover shipping and it can be yours!

Wow, that's a nice gift. I would like to have it, but I only cut in cool weather so it would be a couple months before I could review it so I better pass and let someone have it that can do a quicker review.

I guess I was still typing while you posted. You post came up first and it would be more fair for you to have it if you can do a review sooner.

If anyone can do a detailed, wordy, thorough review of anything, it's @Wilhelm

I buck firewood logs year round, my own and for friends and family, to different length for each individual, 10 to 18".
I mark the desired length with chalk, it is time consuming.

Thank You very much for the praise, though I don't feel I am worthy of it!

My dad taught me a trick when it comes to measuring firewood logs. To preface, the width of the opening in our stove is roughly 17 inches. Since the overwhelming majority of what we burned was bucked up by a 445 with an 18 inch bar, we would just hold the bar up to a cut end, note where an inch or so in from the bar tip was on the log, and make a cut there. I’d say that over the course of the winter maybe 5-10 logs would prove to be too long to fit in the stove, but it was a cheap and easy method for measuring logs.

I can eyeball bucking length on my own firewood and anyone's saying "it doesn't matter just don't go over xx length".

But most want their firewood bucked to a specific length!

Besides, I rarely utilize just one chainsaw bucking firewood, B&C lengths tend to vary.

There's a bunch of fire cutting hacks as is tricks, unless its me cutting for you! I cut tiny little pieces, usually I'm breaking rings in or tuning a chain.
I like the lazer dohicky but man headlights would come in handy for storm clean up or campground emergencies at night for Rangers.

In the thread that I referenced in my first post, there are links to a couple of other firewood measuring methods. Several other threads using chalk, sticks, paint markers, etc. This is just one way.

Up for grabs for the shipping. My 16" chains only have 55 drive links so I don't really have a use for this one.

I've never heard of that brand. Is it pretty good chain?
